How To Order
We accept orders not only through our website, but also by telephone, email, fax, and snail mail. Also, please feel free to visit us in person! Our regular store hours are 10 am to 5 pm Monday-Saturday, although someone is can often be available until 6 if you call ahead.
Unfortunately, our website is currently unable to calculate accurate shipping costs for certain orders (including many small sheet music orders and international orders). We have set it to overestimate the shipping cost on most of these items, and we are able to manually fix the price before you are charged. Please call or email if you have any questions!
If you don't see what you are looking for or need help or advice, please don't hesitate to call us. Our experienced staff is always happy to answer your questions and advise you about the instruments or music you are considering.
Our phone number is (617) 277-8690. You can order by email by writing to sales *at* vonhuene.com.
Trying Instruments "On Approval"
Choosing a recorder is a very personal and subjective process, and it can be difficult to make a choice without the opportunity to try out the instrument you're considering. We are happy to send instruments out on approval so that customers who are unable to visit our shop can try them out at home or with other musicians with whom they play. If you would like to try instruments on approval, please give us a call and we will be happy to assist you. NOTE: We regret that we are unable to send instruments on approval outside the US.
There is no charge for this service beyond the cost of postage and insurance in both directions. However, we do reserve the right to charge for service to the instruments if they are returned in damaged condition.
Remember that the instrument you are trying belongs to someone else (even used instruments are sold on consignment on behalf of other customers). When trying instruments, please:
- Refrain from eating, drinking, and especially smoking.
- Be careful not to damage the mouthpiece...
- Or to gouge the thumbhole
Do NOT attach a thumbrest or anything else to the instrument. Plastic clip-on thumbrests will scratch the surface of wooden instruments and we will have to charge you to refinish the instrument. If you are accustomed to using a thumbrest and need one to determine whether the instrument is right for you, use a piece of cork or other material held in place with a rubber band (this will not damage the finish).
Play the instrument for as long as you need, but no more than about 20-30 minutes at one playing (with time in between for the recorder to dry out completely).
Swab out the excess moisture after playing.
Our normal approval period is ten days from receipt unless other arrangements have been made. Unfortunately, we cannot send sheet music 'on approval.' Please do not hesitate to give us a call or send an email if you have any questions!
